About Johnson & Wales University

Johnson & Wales University, also referred to as JWU or J&W, is a private, nonprofit, co-educational, career-oriented university, located in Providence, which is the capital and the most populous city in Rhode Island, as well as one of the first cities established in USA, its population being approximated at a number of more than 171 900 inhabitants, during the 2009 census.

The university was established in 1914, being founded by Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales, as a business school. It is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges, Inc. (NEAS&C), through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, and offers its students a `wide range of associate, bachelor's, master's, doctoral and continuing education programs`, `designed with industry input`, so they `graduate career-ready.`

Athletics

JWU's athletic teams are nicknamed the Wildcats and they compete in NCAA Division III. Their distinctive colors are blue and white.
